Seriously amazing shifts happening down here this week. I’m going to share another little story with you, a small ‘gift’ to you in thanks for all the amazing magic you are sending my way by reading these articles.

So here’s how it went. I sat down at the desk to do an exercise in self reflection by making a list of reasons I might not succeed. I had just listened to a webinar promoting a product that would be perfect for developing my business from where it is at right now to where I really want it to be. It was a bit expensive and I noticed straight away what happened inside my head.
Three main things came up:
- I don’t have enough money (eg to buy the product right now)
- I’m no good at finishing things
- I’m just not really a successful person.
Ouch, right?
So then I moved right on to the next exercise which was to debunk and ‘crack the foundation’ of those ideas. This was actually surprisingly easy to do once I put my mind to it.
Here’s the real truth:
- I have more than enough money, and if I don’t have it I can easily get it. If I don’t have the $ to buy it now, so what? The money always turns up somehow, even when I’ve been in the worst situations in my life, I have survived them and ultimately become better from them.
And by taking my foot off the gas, I might just hit a downhill run and accelerate naturally anyway, who knows? Reality is, there is so much money all around, who cares whether it is mine or not, I can work out how to how to get more of it if I want, just as plenty of other people do. I can play the game to win and it will come my way.
- In fact, I am excellent at finishing things. I finished school, I have a degree in history, a diploma in building (yep, house-building), and a postgraduate qualification in teaching. All finished. All in the time I was supposed to finish them. In fact, anything I have ever set out to finish, I have done so. I even write articles online that people love to read =)
- I am actually a REALLY successful person. When I wanted to see how good a student I could be I got straight high distinctions (that is a mark of 85-100% for every single task). When I decided to do a Building Diploma whilst working and single-mothering, I did. And I went really well, then got a great job working with a builder. When I decided to find the love of my life and have another family, that’s is exactly what I did. Anything I put my mind to, I succeed at.
So here is the ah-ha moment. Whenever I have gotten close to taking that success to the next level (especially – historically – with work) I have heard those three little saboteurs in my head: “you ain’t got no money, you ain’t no good at finishing things, and you ain’t successful” (don’t ask me why they speak with a New York accent)… and I have quit. Yep, just found a reason to walk out on the opportunity, whatever it was.
But now I see you there… you little rascals, and I know you are not my highest good talking, you are just little programs running rampantly in my head. Well, doubters, be gone.
I’m SUPER successful now. All I have to do – cliched as it is – is be myself. Really, truly, all of myself in my most authentic form.
Look out the next time an opportunity comes my way I’m grabbing it by the horns and going for it. Oh wait, that’s RIGHT NOW!!
Try the exercise for yourself, you might be surprised at its simplicity.
Exciting times. All my birthdays have come at once.
